Precipitation accumulation product using only hourly gauge accumulations that have passed the Gauge Quality Control
- 1-, 3-, 6-, 12-, 24-, 48-, and 72-hour accumulations
NWS: WFO, RFC
Hydrometeorological Automated Data System (HADS) gauge network
Spatial resolution: 1km x 1km
Temporal resolution: 1-, 3-, 6-, 12-, and 24-hourly accumulations are updated hourly at the top of the hour. 48- and 72-hour accumulations are updated daily at 12Z. All products end at the indicated time.
The one-hour QPE – Gauge Only product uses only those gauges that: 1) have successfully passed the Gauge Quality Control
(QC), or 2) are not quality-controlled due to their locations in poor radar coverage regions. The latter gauges are used to provide some useful information in areas lacking radar observations. QPE – Gauge Only uses a similar interpolation scheme as the QPE – Radar w/ Gauge Bias Correction
product to create the gridded product. Instead of interpolating radar bias values onto a radar-only grid, this product uses the inverse distance weighting (IDW) scheme to interpolate the gauge values onto a blank 1km x 1km grid (Figure 1). The quality control and interpolation scheme are only conducted on the one-hour accumulation, since all the other accumulations are aggregates of the one-hour field.
